Show District prepares for growth School enrollment rising to make the school lunches better for the students. Overall Stapley felt that the attitude of the school is very good this year. In other business, Dale Wallace proposed that a vocational program be established in the special education curriculum at Cedar High School. If the program is accepted the students will build the physical facility after a series of lectures and activities covering the use and knowledge of measurement, along with safety rules and procedures in construction and shop skills. Wallace is concerned that special education students are not getting an "all around" education. This program would provide an alternative to the traditional curriculum. Students would have an opportunity to learn skills such as basic wiring and electricity, sign making, carpentry, welding, small tool skills, small engine skills and bricklaying. CEDAR CITY - The Iron County School District can count on a steady increase in student enrollment over the next five or six years. This information was announced Tuesday b by Superintendent J. Clair Morris at the regular meeting of the Board of Education. Presently there are 4,405 students attending the County schools, and by 1987 enrollment should increase to about 5.688, said a report handed out by Morris. The Board has set up a five-year school building program. Its first priority is to add on to Cedar High School. Second, the Board would like to build a vocational school on the east end of campus. Land would not be a problem, and the facility could absorb the n new enrollment of students which would put off the need for a new high school for a few years. Students from other schools in the County could be transported to the Cedar school for the vocational program. However, not all members of the Board were in favor of building the vocational center. "We don't have enough students to fill the facility here (CHS). We can handle the vocational program here in our facility," said President Rett Shakespear. In other business, results of a survey of the Cedar City Middle School were announced. "Most students thought the school was alright," said Dee El Stapley, principal, who felt the survey went very well. He added that there were quite a few comments about the school lunches. Most felt that the food was good. According Ac-cording to Stapley, the cooks at the school have worked very hard this year Delinquent property tax penalties to be assessed PAROWAN - Iron County Treasurer LaMar Jensen recently reminded County residents that the law has been changed regarding penalties on delinquent property taxes. Anv tax found delinquent after Nov. 31 that is less than $500 total will carry a 2 percent penalty, with a minimum charge of $10, he said. "There are a great number of people whose taxes are less than $500; they are used to paying the 2 percent penalty fee, i but they are not used to paying the new $10 charge," explained Jensen, and asked that taxpayers remember the change when filing taxes this year. |
