Show Leadership confab planned Daryl McCarty, executive secretary of the Utah Education Association, will be the keynote speaker Oct. 13 at a fall leadership conference for high school students hosted by the Associated Students of Southern Utah State College. "To date, 20 Utah and Nevada schools have committed to attend the conference," said Marvin Bagley, ASSUSC public relations coordinator. "Included are South, West and West Jordan high schools from northern nor-thern Utah; Pahranagut, Virgin Valley and Lincoln County schools from Nevada; Green River High School from eastern Utah; with the remaining schools from southern and central Utah." "The conference is annually hosted by the ASSUSC to help high school student body officers of-ficers develop leadership skills," said Bagley, a junior political science major from Greenwich, Piute County.' "Along with the keynote address by McCarty, several workshops directed by SUSC faculty members and ASSUSC officers will be held." Also on the agenda is a workshop specifically designed for high school advisors which will be directed by Sterling R. Church, dean of students at SUSC. Following registration and an "ice-breaker" under the direction of Jack L. Stokes, associate urn. professor . of behavioral and social sciences, conference participants will break into small group sessions. The first group of workshops are "Parliamentary Procedures" directed by Pat Czarny, 1980-81 ASSUSC vice president; ''Workshop for Cheerleaders" with Kathryn Berg, associate professor of physical science and women's athletic coordinator; "Basic Leadership" with Dave Taylor, assistant director . of student activities; and "How to Brainstorm" under the direction of SUSC forensic coach M.L.. Smith. A second series of workshop choices are "Traditional Activities Versus Innovative Activities" Ac-tivities" with James Reese, 1981-82 ASSUSC vice president; "Publications" with James Dillard, assistant professor of communications; com-munications; "Fund-Raising" "Fund-Raising" with Gail Dillard, a free-lance public relations specialist; "How to Conduct a Meeting" with Robert A. Moore, associate professor of business; and "How to Write and Change School Constitutions" under the direction of Rodney D. Decker, chairman of the SUSC Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. |
