Show IndustrialDevelopmeht Board ConventioriCenter proposed TV . A--- By invitation of Mayor Jack Sawyers, , the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce Industrial Development Board met last week at the Fiddlers III Theater where Sawyers proposed the theater be used for a City convention center. The board was given a tour of the theater by Sawyers and it was explained ex-plained to them how a convention could be set up in Fiddlers and have as many as "750 people in attendance and fit comfortably." "I know it's the best theater in the state; I have no . question about that,"commented Sawyers. "We think it's something that is needed, and Cedar is in need of a convention center." . ' After the tour, S. Garth Jones, executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, informed the board of his trip to California where he tried to get a solar company to build in Cedar City. Speaking about new industrial development for our area Jones said, "A few corporations are interested in our . area, and we've sent them materials about us and have answered their questions." Also speaking to the Board was Vaughn McDonald, the Five County Industrial Development Planner. He commented on how the organization has helped Hurricane and Milford establish industrial parks in their communities and how they have assisted in financing tnese parks. "We have been given some money to continue through the current year, and we don't intend to drop our industrial development assistance, " said McDonald Mc-Donald commenting on President Ronald Reagan's cutbacks. "Whatever it takes, -we'd like to help you here." Paul Whetman, Chairman of the Industrial Park Committee informed the board that his committee would recommend to the City Council to go ahead with a private developer for the industrial park in Cedar City. Talking about the park Whetman said, "We want to be choosy about the type of industry that we bring into our area." Boyter Erica 180 pictured above was named recently as the grand champion Angus heifer, as well as the junior champ, at the Utah State Fair. She is owned by Brigham Young University and Neil Boyter, Cedar City. |
