On the outside of this envelope, type the category, title and first line of the submitted entry. Winners will be notified prior to the birthday party, Nov.. 11. Each first prize winner should be prepared to read the prize-winning poem or essay. These contests will be divided into the following categories: Category I: Children's category, ages 6 - 12 years of age inclusive, any form., Poetry limit is - 25 lines. ssay limit is 250 words. $5, $3 and $2 will be awarded for the first three places. Category II: Teen category, ages 13 - 19 , years ; inclusive, any form. Poetry limit is 25 lines. Essay limit is 250 words. $8, $5 and 13 will be awarded for the first three places. Category III: Adult category, serious or light verse, any form. Poetry limit is 25 lines. Essay limit is 250 words. $8, $5 and $3 will be awarded for the first three places. Cedar City's Birthday Committee recently announced poetry; essay, and ballad contests for Cedar City's 130th Birthday, Bir-thday, Nov. 11. ; Since the original First Encampment r site - is being dedicated during this year's celebration, the theme of the writing may focus on the "First Encampment" or on any of Cedar City's history. Anyone living within the boundaries of Cedar City is eligible to. enter within his age group: AH entries must be unpublished and must be the work of the person submitting them. Manuscripts, must be postmarked or delivered to the chairman, Sidney Hahne, 450 Circleway Drive, Cedar City, Utah 84720, by midnight, Nov. 1. Entries' will be accepted ac-cepted until the closing date. They will not be returned unless the contestant includes a self , addressed envelope with : postage. Manuscripts must be typed. Each poem or essay must be double-spaced, double-spaced, on one side only of 8'2 by 11 inch paper without identification on the sheet. Each poem or essay must have a title. Children may use a pen and lined 8' by 11 inch paper instead of the typed manuscript. In the upper right-hand corner of each page must be the category number and name in which the writing is to be entered. If the writing is longer than one page, the category, the title and the |
