Show Tim Fox retains State Wrestling Title C x v 1 earned a 6-5 win. In the consolation championship, Robinson was matched against Russ Lansing of White Horse. Lansing took a 2-0 lead going into the second round. In the second round Robinson took command. Lansing earned an escape but Robinson gtot the takedown and a three point nearfall. And more important, a 5-3 lead. The last round showed Robinson earning an escape reversal, and two point nearfall. Lansing earned a reversal and a two point nearfall. As the horn sounded Robinson had won a 10-7 decision and Third Place. While Fox and Robinson were busy , Dave Hulet and Dave Morgan were helping the Ram Team, too. Dave Hulet won his first match by pinning Bruce Hatch of White Horse. Hulet lost his next two matches, 6-5 to Brent Anderson of North Sevier and 2-0 to Bruce Morrill of Wayne. Morgan had a tough time with Leonard Garcia of Monticello, loosing a tough 5-4' 5-4' decision. Morgan also lost to Kurt Stembridge of South Summitt 4-0, to knock him out of the tournament. Team wise, this year's tournament was the closest in recent history. Seven teams could have had the Team trophy going, in into the last day, but South Summit pulled it out, beating Wayne County by 8 When people talked about the Parowan Ram Wrestlers this year, they talked about Tim Fox, the returning state champion. They also talked about how Fox was pinned at the Region 12 tournament last week and how he would not repeat as Parowan's first 2 time State Champ.;. Fox proved everyone wrong by bringing the 138 poiund championship to Parowan. Because of Fox's third place finish in region, he was matched against John Woodard of South Summit, the defending State Champion at 138 pounds. It was the battle of State Champs in the first round of the state tournament. Fox, with revenge in eyes, destroyed Woodward 16-7. Fox took an early 7-2 lead in the first round by taking Woodard down. Then Woodard countered with a reversal. Fox reversaled Woodard and earned a three point nearfall at the end of the round. Fox started the second round up and Woodard earned a reversal early in the second round. Fox again countered with a reversal and a two point nearfall to widen his lead to 11-4 going into the third round. In the third round Fox got a quick escape, takedown, and two point nearfall to put the match out of reach. Woodard reversed Fox and Fox stalled the last 15 seconds of the match. Fox wrestled the whole state tournament with a broken rib but the pain was not as bad when his hand was raised in victory. Fox's next opponent was Burtoin Damon of Piute. Damon was the wrestler that pinned Fox last week to end Fox's 41 win streak. In the first round Fox CAPTURES STATE TITLE. The pride of the Parowan Rams is Tim Fox who captured a state championship title in his weight classification at the 1 A Meet . earned two takedowns while Damon earned an escape and a very questionable penalty point. Fox went into the second round with a 4-2 lead. Fox was on top the second round and locked hanUs on Damon to close the match at 4-3 at the end of the second round. Fox closed out the scoring in the third round by getting an escape and a 5-3 win and a shot at the championship. In the championship match, Fox was to face Van Codner of Monticello. Both seniors saw gold at the end of .'. the match and Codner looked like he might get it. Codner took Fox down but Fox managed an escape to end the first round by one point. The next round showed both wrestlers getting reversals and Codner holding a 4-3 lead. In the third round Fox overpowered Codner and held him in a cradle for almost the last minute. Fox got a three point nearfall and a 6-4 win. Fox ended his high school ' career with a 25-1 record. Tim Fox did prove to himself and many others that he is indeed a champion. cham-pion. While Fox earned the gold, Randy Robinson had earned . third place at 105 pounds. Robinson, a freshman, 1 showed that he will be a wrestler to reckon with the next three years. Robinson's first match was against Ray Liddell of Duchesne. Robinson took care of Liddell in the second round, pinning him in 2:37 of the match. Robinson built up a 6-1 lead at the end of the first round. Robinson lost to Scott Ellett of Wayne and this sent Robinson into consolation con-solation against Scott Kinross of Milford. Robinson and Kinross had met two times earlier in the season with Robinson winnning both. This time Kinross put up a strong fight to get into the consolation Championships. The first round went scoreless but Robinson took .-a 2-1 lead going into the last round., Robinson earned -ia two point nearfall and ''"Kinross got an escape at the end of the round. The third round was even with both wrestlers earning a two point nearfall. Both wrestlers reversed each other but Robinson had points. Individual awards went to Kerry Anderson, Wayne County, for the outstanding Coach; Gordon Taylor of South Summit got Outstanding Out-standing Wrestler to the surprise of many and Mark Brown of Beaver received an award for the most pins in the shortest amount of time.
