Show T-Birds bow to Antelopes After leading the nationally ranked Antelopes of Grand Canyon throughout the first . half of play the Southern Utah State College Thunderbirds hit a dry spell in the second half of play and were outmanned as the visitors from Phoenix reeled off a 84-79 victory. Led by freshman guard Todd Stevens in the first half of play the T-Birds held the lead until the buzzer when a 23 footer was canned by the Antelopes to knot the score at 38-all. SUSC took a brief lead at 40 to 38 in the second half but the Antelopes outscored the T-Birds 21-7 in the next seven minutes of play to take command of the game. Stevens hit for 17 points i the first half with 6 of 8 from the field and 5 of 5 from the foul lane. In the second half he was held to eight points but ended up the night with 25 points to lead ail scorers. The T-Birds hit 60 percent of their shots in the first half and committed only seven turnovers. They wound up the game with a 52.7 percent shooting mark and committed com-mitted 13 turnovers in the second half to give the Antelopes the edge that they needed. ; SUSC missed some chances to get back in the game with some . missed layups and two misses on the front end of the one and one ' at the charity stripe. Grand Canyon on the other hand were near ferfect from the line in the second half and consistantly hit the charity tosses to break away for the victory. Grand Canyon came into the contest ranked fifth in the nation by the NAIA and proved to have the poise in the second stanza to warrant that ranking.
