Show Second College Lyceum Number To Be Presented Here Nov. 1st The second number of the Dixie college lyceum course will be presented pre-sented next Wednesday, Nov. 1st, at 8 p. m., in the college auditorium. audi-torium. Hazel Hildred, "The Stephen Foster Girl", is the attraction. at-traction. This is a change of date from the date listed on the lyceum ly-ceum season tickets. Miss Hildred is - a young American Ameri-can mezzo-contralto and, as her title suggests, will sing the lovely songs of Stephen Foster. She has done considerable research on the period and the composer of these songs, and she considers Foster as a truly great American composer. com-poser. Her program is divided into four parts. The first of these is "Southern Melodies", including the old favorites, "Old Folks At Home", "My Old Kentucky Home" and others. "The Love Theme", is second and includes the melodies, "Jennie June", "Gentle Annie", -"Nellie Bly", and "Katie Bell". "Candle Light and Dreams," is Miss Hildred's third group, in which she uses special lighting and costume effects. In this group she sings, "Under the Willow Wil-low She's Sleeping", "Eldon Bayne," and "Linger In Blissful Repose". The fourth group covers the entire field of Foster's work and is a form of recapitulation. Included In-cluded are, "Open Thy Lattice, Love", "Oh! Susanna", and others. Among her encores will be "Beautiful Dreamer", and "Jeanie With Her Light Brown Hair". Miss Hildred has appeared in America and abroad in both concert con-cert and opera and comes to St. George highly recommended. |
