Show Over 80 Members Attend American Legion Auxiliary Meet Tuesday The American Legion Auxiliary, Lester Keate Post No. 90, staged their annual February program and social at the Arrowhead banquet ban-quet rooms Tuesday evening, with more than 80 Auxiliary members, Legionnaires and guests attending. Pres. Kate B. Milne conducted the program and the social entertainment entertain-ment for the evening was in charge of Auxiliary members with Vera Mitchell and Idella Bateman, chairmen of the National Na-tional Defense and Americanizing committees. Included on the program after the flag rituals and conventional opening, was community singing of National Anthems. Idella Bateman Bate-man then presented Mary Gubler, daughter of Mrs. Lulu Gubler of Ivins, who read her prize winning (Continued on page four) Legion Aux. Program (Continued from front page) essay on National Defense, entitled, en-titled, "What Can I Do For My Country". Miss Gubler receives the $3.00 award from the local Auxiliary and her paper will go to the State. She is a student of the Woodward high school. Prof. Earl J. Bleak and associates associ-ates presented a brass quartet accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Bleak. Legionnaire Leg-ionnaire K. M. Cannon read a well prepared paper on the history his-tory of our Flag and the correct method of display of the colors under all occasions, concluding with the reading of, "A Father's Advice To His Son", regarding honor to the American flag. Clive Hartman sang, "I Am An American", with "Mexicali Rose", as an encore number. This was followed by an address by Prin. Newell R. Frei of the Woodward high school entitled, "Only the Strong Can Be Free", and basing his points on what current history in Europe has taught and is teaching teach-ing mankind regarding the battle for freedom. Vernon Worthen lead in singing, sing-ing, "God Bless America", after which the remainder of the evening eve-ning was devoted to competitive Rook, honors going to Mrs. E. J. Pickett for the ladies and to K. M. Cannon for the men. Mrs. Bateman displayed and explained the "Navy Print Plate", which was the award for the evening. |
