Show Fines Collected During First Six Months From Drivers Reported Fines imposed by counties during the first six months of this year totaled $33,437.25 it was revealed today by a report eminating from the office of Supt. R. Whitney Groo of the State Highway patrol. Speeding headed the list with a total of fines imposed of $11,636.-70. $11,636.-70. Drunk driving came second with a total of $7,535 followed by thru-stop violation fines of $3,417.-70. $3,417.-70. Fines for reckless driving totaled to-taled $1,870. Fines totaling $2,-151.40 $2,-151.40 were levied for failure to secure drivers' licenses. During August the patrol made 696 arrests as compared to 841 for the month of July. Speeding headed the list of offenses with a total of 255, a decrease of 68 as compared with July. Ninety-five arrests were made for running stop signs; 44 for improper passing, pass-ing, 19 for reckless driving and 18 for drunken driving. Various minor min-or offenses accounted for the balance bal-ance of the arrests. In commenting on the report, W. D. Hammond, chairman of the commission praised the work of the Highway patrol and lauded the cooperation given by the enforcement en-forcement officers of the various cities and towns. |
