Show C. C. Starr Reported Recovering From Slugging By L. A. Bandits Encouraging news came from Los Angeles at 9:30 p. ml, Wednesday, Wednes-day, when Mrs. C. C. Starr phoned phon-ed to say that Mr. Starr had regained re-gained consciousness and was making an effort to disentangle what had happened to him on Saturday night previous, when he was slugged and robbed as he descended the stairs to his son, Art's apartment on Valencia street. Mr. Starr left St. George last Thursday, Sept. 12, to be with his son, Art, who underwent a minor throat surgery at a Los Angeles hospital Saturday morning. morn-ing. About 9 p. m., on Saturday evening he visited his son at the hospital, and before retiring stopped stop-ped across the driveway from his son's apartment to the home of Harriet D. Deeter, 1417 Valencia street, from where he phoned Mrs. Starr in St. George to say Art was doing nicely. Mrs. Deeter is a friend of the family with whom Grace Starr, now Mrs. Frank Hawkes resided while in Los Angeles. About 10:30 p.m., he returned across the driveway to Art's apartment which is in the basement. base-ment. Nothing else is known except ex-cept that about 2 a. m., Mrs. Deeter, Dee-ter, from her room, heard Mr. Starr groaning. She dressed and crossed the driveway to learn the trouble, found his hat at the top landing and his unconscious body at the foot the stair leading lead-ing to his son's apartment. She summoned the police for help and Mr. Starr was removed to the hospital where his condition was termed as serious due to a skull fracture from the bludgeon bludg-eon of his assailant. Mrs. Starr left Sunday on receipt re-ceipt of news of the accident and and is still with her husband, whose return to consciousness last evening increases the hope for his recovery, although it is known his injuries are very serious. ser-ious.
