Show Juanita Brooks Wins Third. Place Honors In Speech Contest Sponsored By Democratic League Juanita Brooks, wife of Postmaster Post-master William Brooks of this city, walked off with third place honors at the speech contest sponsored in Salt Lake City last Saturday by the Utah Democratic Women's League. The contest was held at the Newhouse hotel at 2:30 p.m., following a noon luncheon at the same place. In making plans for this contest con-test the state was divided into eight districts, and county try-outs try-outs for elimination were held in some instances to select the district dis-trict representative.. Mrs. John Phoenix Jr., in announcing her willingness to represent Washington Washing-ton county, had no competition, and was to have been the district delegate. Finding last Thursday evening she would be unable to attend, Mrs. Brooks took ovr-r. and states she has never attended attend-ed a more delightful convention, nor heard more interesting an well informed speakers than Our seven women with whom she corrv-peted corrv-peted as the eighth contestant.
