Show Albert Mathis of New Harmony was in town Thursday. He had just come in from his goat herd which is located lo-cated on Little Creek mountain. Mr. Mathis was formerly a prominent sheep owner but sold his sheep and is now in the goat business. He stated stat-ed that he had to buy high priced range to run his sheep on but he could run goats on government land as they preferred browse and a rough country coun-try rather than the grass and smooth level rands. Mr. Mathis showed a sample sam-ple of Angora hair taken from one of his goats that was splendid. The fine Angora hair is used a great deal combined com-bined with silk in making dress material ma-terial of different kinds. New Harmony is the home of the goat industry of the southwest part of the state. Schmutz Bros, also have a fine herd of goats which they are herding down in this part of the country. The goat business is growing in southern Utah and will continue to do so as we have so much rough range that is not suitable for sheep but makes fine goat pasture. |
