Show STATE PROMISES COOPERATION Shortly after the reorganization of the Dixie Rod and Gun club in January Jan-uary the secretary was instructed to write D. H. Madsen, state game commissioner, com-missioner, in regard to more protection protec-tion for Washington county's fish and game. The following letter has been received from Mr. Madsen: "I agree with you that it is unreasonable un-reasonable to expect proper law enforcement en-forcement in counties where we have no active', paid game warden. The associations have done an excellent work but they need addithional help. Are the present time we have seventeen seven-teen men who do game warden work throughout the state, a part of whose time is also given to fish planting. The balance of our employees are engaged en-gaged in fish and game culture exclusively. ex-clusively. From that you will observe that we have slightly more than one man for each two counties. It has been our policy in the past to build up the hatcheries and game farm to a point where we would be able to supply sup-ply the required fish and game to maintain fishing and hunting throughout through-out the state, and this work has taken tak-en a major portion of our funds. "This work will practically be concluded con-cluded during the present year, at least to a point beyond which, we cannot can-not go without an increase in funds, and it is our plan as soon as possible to increase our warden force throughout through-out the state I cannot make you any definite promise just now as to what we will be able to do this year, but will do everything possible to give you more adequate protection." |
