Show LEGION HONORS MEMORY OF DEPARTED COMRADES As a means of honoring the memory mem-ory of their departed comrades, John Ivens Post No. 42 of the American Legion at Grand Canyon has arranged to buiid a memorial gateway at the entrance to the village cemetery in Grand Canyon National Park. The preliminary plans for the structure as prepared by Park Superintendent Super-intendent M. R. Tillotson and Post Commander E. M. Ennis have been gotten out in final shape by the Landscape Land-scape Engineering Division of the National Na-tional Park Service and have been formally approved. The pillars are to be of rough native stone surmounted by log cross beams and carrying hand made wrought iron ornamental lanterns. lan-terns. A bronze plaque, set in the masonry, will bear the inscription, "Erected by John Ivens Post No. 42, The American Legion, And Its Auxiliary. Auxi-liary. Presented To Grand Canyon National Park, May 30, 1928." Plans are being made whereby the structure may be completed and formally dedicated dedi-cated next Memorial Day. This action on the part of the post' at Grand Canyon is only, one of the many evidences of the extent to which it has been a real asset to the community com-munity and to the National Park in which it is located. |
