Brian Van Tassell of the Cubs led off with a double in the top of the first inning, but he was tagged out at third base. Kenny Robinson connected for a single and Troy Murray slugged a double. Lisa Smuin, the only girl in the league, drove in both runners with a double, which gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead. The Dodgers quickly overcame the Cub lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 3 to 2 lead. Quin Dickson and Greg Roberts singled. Ryan Pederson smashed a double, which knocked in Dickson and Roberts to tie up the game at 2-2. Bobby Roberts gained a single when an outfielder out-fielder dropped the ball and Pederson scored to give the Dodgers a 3 to 2 lead. Bobby Roberts ran over . second basegirl, Smuin, but she held onto the ball and tagged the Dodger out. Troy Logan singled, but the next two batters committed outs. Five runs were scored by the Cubs in the top of the second inning for a 7 to 3 advantage. Shane Turner, Jed Murray, Van Tassell and Robinson gained singles. Turner scored to tie up the game at 3-3 and a single by Robinson drove in Murray to give the Cubs a 4 to 3 lead. A double by Murray knocked in Van Tassell and gave the Cubs a 5-3 advantage. Smuin attacked the baseball for a double and sent Robinson and Murray home for a 7-3 lead. The Dodgers were blanked in the bottom of the second inning and the Cubs were shutout in the top of the third inning. The Dodgers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut Cubs' lead to one run, 7 to 6. Pederson singled and advanced to second and third base. Pederson scored a few minutes later. Logan gained a triple on errors and crossed home plate for the Dodgers' fifth run. Duanc Maynard got on base and scored to cut the Cults' lead to 7 to 6. The Dodgers had the bases loaded with two outs, but the final batter, Greg Roberts, flied out to end the inning on an outstanding catch by outfielder, Kenny Robinson. One run was scored by the Cubs in the top of the fourth inning Jason Tolbert Kmashed a triple with two outs and ncored a few minutes later, which gave the Cub an 8 to 6 lead. Coach lioyd Van Tassell called time out and talked to Tolbert and he did what his coach told him as he blasted the ball in the outfield for a triple. The Cubs had an 8 to 6 lead, but the Dodgers' first three batters produced runs to give their team a 9 to 8 advantage ad-vantage in the bottom of the fourth inning. Craig Timothy singled in Logan to give the Dodgers a 9 to 8 lead. However, the Cubs regained their lead as they scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 10 to 9 advantage. Robinson flied out and Van Tassell was caught off second base for a double play. The next batter struck out for the third out. Three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Dodgers a 12 to 10 advantage. Greg Roberts flied out to Smuin at second base, but Pederson and Bobby Roberts singled. Pederson scored to tie up the game at 10-10. Logan singled and Roberts moved to third base. The Cubs gained out number two when Smuin made a good catch of a flyball by Timothy. However, Maynard connected for a double, which drove in Roberts and Logan and gave the Dodgers a 12 to 10 lead. The final tetter struck out to end the inning. The Cubs were behind by two runs going into their last at-bats in the top of the sixth inning. Troy Kynaston drilled the baseball for a double and scored to cut the Dodgers' lead to 12 to 1 1. Turner smashed a double, moved to third base and scored to tie up the game at 12-12. Murray grounded out to the first baseman and Hacking flied out. Van Tassell had two strikes on him and decided to try a bunt. His attempt was foul and be struck out as the batter is out when he commits a foul on a bunt attempt on the third strike. If he would have hit a foul fly he would not have Ijcen retired. One run in the bottom of the sixth inning would win the game for the Dodgers and the Dodgers' dream came true as they scored a run to win the game by the score of 13 to 12.
