Cancer Soc Pain-a-sympton of bone cancer QUESTION: I have an old knee injury in-jury from the days 1 played football. It has become very painful. Is there any danger of cancer? ANSWER: Although there is no evidence to support the idea that trauma or injury leads to cancer, pain is a common symptom of bone cancer. Another important sign-of bone cancer is swelling -caused by the expanded ' tumor. In some cases, fever may be present, but this is usually seen only in advanced disease and not as an early sign. A diagnosis of bone usually requires a team effort by the patient's physician, a radiologist, an orthopedic surgeon, and a specialist in the laboratory examination of body tissue and fluids. A physician should be consulted without delay. |
