Show 30 Years Ago June 28, 1951 With all the colorful splendor of the Old West, cowboys and full-blooded Indians will intermingle, this time peaceably, at the opening of Vernal's ' Annual Nite Rodeo Thursday. Reigning as queens over the three-day three-day events will be Dorothy Luck and Mary Shavanaugh. The ladies were chosen on the merits of riding, horsemanship hor-semanship and street riding. Also chosen were Merial Hacking as Miss Vernal and LaRaye Caldwell as Miss Uintah. The Bureau of Mines this week announced an-nounced the award of $33,870 contract for the design and construction at Rifle, Colo., of a demonstration scale plant that will utilize a new process for the extraction of oil from shale. Mr. Boy Gutrie, chief of the Bureau's demonstration demon-stration plant, said that there is excellent ex-cellent chance of producing crude shale oil at a cost competitve with natural petroleum. Gov.
