Show Reverend George Davich to serve new Ogden parish His Excellency, Joseph Lennox Federal, D. D., Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, announces the transfer of Father George F. Davich, Pastor of Saint James. Bishop Federal has appointed Father Davich as Pastor of a newly formed parish which will be named Holy Family Fami-ly in South Ogden. Father Davich will surpervise the fund-raising and building of a church, education center, parish hall and rectory. The transfer is effective August 5, 1979. The new Pastor of Saint James will be Father Lawrence Spellen who comes to Vernal from Salinas, California. Father Davich came to Vernal on July Ju-ly 22, 1971. During his Pastorate, the parish has doubled in size. In his eight years, the church and rectory were renovated and redecorated. He also built the Saint James Religious Education Educa-tion Center where at present 160 children come each week for religious studies. Father Davich is a native of Utah and was born in Park City on July 2, 1932 to John and Frances Saric Davich. He -' spent his early school years in Utah. Prior to his entrance to ecclesiastical studies, he attended the University of Utah and was employed by the Federal Government and the Utah State Tax Commission. He served with the Armed Forces for two years during the Korean Conflict and was assigned with the Adjutant Ad-jutant General in Washington, D.C. In the fall of 1954 he entered Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa, graduating with a degree in Philosophy and History, in 1958, he entered Mount Saint Bernard Theological Seminary in Dubuque, and completed four years studies in Theology and Scripture. He was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood on May 12, 1962 by Bishop Federal in the Cathedral of . the Madeleine in Salt Lake City. His previous assignments include the following: He taught history, religion and Latin at Judge Memorial High School and Saint Mary's of the Wasatch for three years. He was also Chaplain at ' Holy Cross Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City and Chaplain at the Salt Lake County Detention Center.. He served as Assistant Pastor at St. Vincent de Paul in Murray, St. Ann's in Salt Lake City and St. Joseph's in Ogden. In 1967, he was assigned as Pastor of Christ the King,. Cedar City and St. George Parish in St. George, Utah. During his Pastorate in St. George, he taught at Dixie College and in 1973 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Doc-torate Degree of Humanities from that college. He is also a graduate of the Vatican II Institute of Theology and Scripture, Berkley, California. While residing in Vernal as Pastor of Saint James, Father Davich has been very active in community and civic affairs. af-fairs. He was instrumental in establishing the "Help Line" program and spent countless hours in the needs involved. The "World Day of Prayer" was another project that he led or continually continual-ly contributed to. Father Davich served on the board of directors of the Dinaland Country Club for many years and was responsible for many of the renovating projects carried car-ried out the last few years.
