Show George Southam family displays relics at reunion Over two-hundred members of the George H. Southam family met in the Naples Ward Chapel Saturday July 21, for a family reunion. An exhibit was prepared by each of the families including many old souvenirs. There were also arts and crafts displayed with family pictures a special part of each display. The program included a song by daughters of Alice Southam Cook. Mrs. Cook who celebrated her 90th birthday July 20 gave a humorous reading. There was a report given on family letters and interesting events related of some of the ancestors. A special display was donated to the family by Winnie Pilling, including Scottish quilts, wool sweater, music and bagpipes. The Southam ancestors were from Glasglo. Scotland. The reunion was under the direction of Pat Evens and J. B. Karren. A family record book was available to all family members for a nominal fee. The book was compiled by Wanda Richards, who was hospitalized with a heart attack and unable to attend the reunion. Mrs. Kieth (Lila) Caldwell, who is assisting Mrs. Richards, explained ex-plained that there were not enough books to go around so there would be a special printing in the near future. She said anyone who would like to order a book should contact her by August 15, 789-0605. Special guests at the reunion were descendents of Mary Jane Southam Allen, oldest sister of George H. Southam. |
