Mangrum, 32, was in the sub, master group. Mangrum's wife, Maureen, said, "The last six miles were the hardest. He said that's when the race started. He didn't get in as much training as he wanted to. I wish they would have let the runners go down the parade route." Louie Kelley, 32, Vernal, pocketed a 4:50.22 time in the Deseret News Marathon in the sub master I group. Mrs. Kelley remarked, "The first 18 miles seem to be the easiest. He had to walk about five miles. It took him longer to run the last eight miles than the first 18 because he had walked five miles. The last three miles were really , exciting for us because people were dieting and rooting him on and he knew he could finish it if he continued on. The fans were really nice. They rooted for everyone." |
