Show SAY BANCROFT MAY BE PRESIDENT But Report That Harriman Will Resign and Other Heads Will Be Chosen, Is Denied Here. About everyyear or so reports are circulated in Omaha and other Eastern railroad centers that E. II. Harriman, president of the system bearing his name, contemplates resigning from the Fosition, and of appointing presidents or each of the great lines forming the Harriman system. A statement to this effect was received re-ceived here this morning by wire from Omaha. No knowledge of such intention inten-tion on the part of Harriman is known at offices of the Oregon Short Line. Officials of that railroad laugh at the report, and say there is nothing in it. Harriman was but recently elected to the presidency of the Southeri Pacific, and instead of relinquishing active control con-trol of the roads under his management, has evinced greater activity than ever before. According to the plan discussed in Omaha, W. H. Bancroft of this city is to become president of the Oregon Hhort Line; A. L. Mohler of the Union Pacific; E. E. Calvin of the Southern Pacific and J. P. O'Brien of the Oregon Ore-gon Bailway & Navigation company. |
