"burglary," "burg-lary," "grand larceny," "brainstorm." or Just plain "petty larceny" that's what the police department Is trying- to figure out In the case of Tom Beras. a Greek who was arrested In .the cellar of Patrolman Pa-trolman Stains' bouse.' 167 South Fourth West vtreet, last night. For several days Mrs. Stains had noticed that tie supply of fruit which she "put up" lastf summer, and which was stored in the cellar, had been growing less. At first she thought that her husband had that hungry feeling feel-ing when he returned from his shift and had made the raid on the family larder. Stains denied the allegations and started start-ed an Investigation. In the garden he found footmarks leading-to the cellar and therefrom. That was enough for the officer. offi-cer. He lay in wait for the thief. About 10 o'clock last night he heard a noise in the cellar. - A moment later- he had the native of the once greatest nation in the world under arrest. The patrol wagon was called and now well, the Greek is an inmate of the city Jail and the fruit of the Stains family Is safe unless Tom told his friends of the place where It was stored. |
