Show LAND JUMPS FROM $1 TO $250 ACRE ON ACCOUNT OF WATER Inside of ten days water from the great Irrigation system of the Green River City Irrigation company will be turned into the ditches and onto more than 25,000 acres around Green River, when the entire system is completed. This Is the statement of Col. Charles D. Moore, chief engineer of the company. Col. Moore has Just returned from the works. About seven miles up Oreen river from the station of that name on the Denver A Rio Grande railroad, the plant of the irrigation company Is located. An immense im-mense pumping system, with 400 horsepower, horse-power, will force the water into two ditches. Water . will be run by gravity into another ditch. These three canals total eighteen miles. The dam Is B43feet long and twenty-four feet high, is considered one of the strongest strong-est and most Important engineering schemes in the lntermountain country. Green river and Orand river form the Colorado river, and neither of the former for-mer two' was ever known to run dry. The total cost of the system Is 1100,000. The pumping plant alone cost 175,000. Eight thousand acres will be ready for irrigation within the next two weeks. Seven carloads of peach trees will be set out this season. The land in the vicinity is said to be the best fruit land In the West. This Is located in what is known as Gunnison valley. .Settlers are crowding into the country every day. Land has raised in price from 1 to $250 an acre, and is in great demand. |
