Show Gus Backman Again Heads A.A.U.Body . . ... ' Cus P. Backman will continue t lead the Intermountain Amateur Athletic Union through the coming year. Backman was reelected Monday in a meeting at the Elks club, together to-gether with Mack Corbett, secretary-treasurer; H. C Mortensen, Theron Parmelee, Reed Swensoa and J. Ken Vanderhoff. Herbert L. Snyder was elected fourth Tic president. President Backman has requested request-ed that anyone who will want A. A. U. sanction for tournaments this coming year have his application ap-plication in by Monday, October 9. The board of managers will meet then and pass on ail applications. Delegates Named Delegates named to the national convention to be held at Miami. Fla December 8. 9 and 10, were Chrlstensen, Backman, Swenson, Corbett. Alternates named wera Parmelee, Wally Wall of Ogden, J. C Derks. W. K. Day, Vanderhoff and George K. Brown. Committee chairmen turned In some glowing reports on the auo-cess auo-cess of the 1939 season. Clinton Larson stressed the Importance of taking early steps to have national track and field tournaments held here during Utah's centennial In 1947 and received unanimous support sup-port for his suggestion. Boring at Peak Harold McNeill, chairman of the boxing committee; Wall and Harold Har-old Welch reported that amateur boxing waa now at Its peak In the Intermountain west. Swimming also has made excellent progress, according to Perron Losee of Ogden. The business meeting was preceded pre-ceded by a dinner. |
