Show Grocers-Back -Food Stamps The Utsh Retail Grocers' association, asso-ciation, through its president and secretary, Tuesday added its support sup-port to the federal surplus commodity com-modity corporation's food stamp plan. William B. Spencer, president, and Donald P. Lloyd, secretary of the association, told James S. Allen of Washington. D. C. assistant assist-ant to the president of the corporation, cor-poration, and Jonathan Garst of San Francisco, CaL, regional corporation cor-poration director, they and the association would cooperate in putting the plan to work here. They said the association probably proba-bly would seek to have the plan extended throughout the state. Instead In-stead of confined to Salt Lake City and county, as under present plans. The corporation executives met late Tuesday afternoon with Dar-rell Dar-rell J. Greenwell. state W P A administrator; ad-ministrator; Sharon L. Hatch, Salt Lake county welfare director, and other officials before sending a report re-port to Henry A. Wallace, secretary secre-tary of agriculture. The stamp plan, reported highly successful In trials through certain cer-tain parts of the east and south, consists of distributing surplus farm commodities to federal, state and local relief clients through normal trade channels by use of stamps, enabling the purchasers to buy at lower prices. |
