S. church offices In Salt Lake City announced Tuesday Tues-day that 179 missionaries and a mission president and his wife had returned to the United States on ships thst docked in New York late ; Monday. ! -The group, comprised mostly of British, French and German missionaries, mis-sionaries, according; to word received re-ceived from John H. Taylor, member mem-ber of the 1 D. S. church council of leventy, and Frank Evans, president pres-ident of the eastern states mission, who greeted the refugees. A. C. Captain Giles C. Stedman, commander com-mander of the liner, told of an air raid alarm which brought the passengers pas-sengers scurrying to decks the night of September 10. when the ship was at Havre, France, and the audible relief that swept through the liner when airplanes failed to appear. Sixty of the missionaries were on the liner Scanyork. which alto docked in New York late Monday night.
