Show NOTE BARES CRASH OF ATLANTIC FLIER STOCKHOLM, Sept. 19 UP A penciled message in a bottle washed up off the Norwegian coast provided a sequel today to the disappearance of Charles Baekman, 27-year-old Swedish flier lost on an attempted transatlantic trans-atlantic solo flight last May. A customs officer at the Swedish-Norwegian border reported finding the message, which he said bore Baekman name and told of a crash in midocean. The writer said be would be lost. If no help came within three days. Baekman. who had lived for a time in St Louis and Chicago, took oft for 'Sweden from St. Johns, Nefoundland, last May 18 and was unreported thereafter. He flew a 90-hore power, single-motored monoplane, with no radio. |
