Show SCHURMAN NOT COMING Head of Cornell Unable to j Attend State Teachers' Institute. A telegram was received from President Presi-dent J. G. Schurman by State Superintendent Superin-tendent Nelson Friday morning announcing an-nouncing that he would be unable to attend the State Teachers' institute which will be held in thiserlty in January. Janu-ary. Death is the reason given, though the telegram does not state who is dead. Prof. Nelson is of the opinion that It Is a member of the Board of Regents of Cornell university. President Schurman was to have delivered de-livered three addresses, two to the institute in-stitute and one public address in the Tabernacle. Upon the receipt of the telegram. Superintendent Su-perintendent Nelson at once opened communication by wire with President Harper ef the University of Chicago, with a view of securing his services. President Harper is an educator of national na-tional prominence. "We very much regret that President Schurman cannot come," said Prof, Nelson, Nel-son, "but we ,wlll secure some educator of wide repute to take his place. We intend to have the best meeting of the State teachers ever held." |
