Show " 1 - 1 A Foolish Attcrzpt. The attempt to go behind the returns in Colorado Colo-rado and continue Gov. Peabody in office, will .not tend to plaqe the Republicans of that State in a very favorable light before the public The contention is that in a number of precincts in Denver an arbitrary order of the Supreme court in regard to watchers was violated, and on the strength of that it is proposed to throw out the vote in those precincts, all of which gave Adams a plurality plu-rality over Peabody. There indy have been, some frauds committed in Colorado, but to assert that the large plurality rolled up for Adams was secured by fraud is ridiculous. ridicu-lous. The people of Colorado were tired of Peabody and his methods and they voted against him. He was fairly beaten, and that is all there is to it. "7- -The Colorado Supreme court has taken a remarkable re-markable stand in this matter. Even if it were actu- a ted solely by a desire for honest elections and good government, itsNarbitrary attitude in regard to the manner, in which the voting should be conducted would hardly have seemed proper. We believe it has been pretty thoroughly established that we cannot can-not go behind the returns. It is time for Colorado to show a. little sense. She has-been foolish' enough. Adams has' been elected and he will probably be a good Governor. Under his administration the State should regain lost prestige. Let Peabody be retained in office, . towever, and Colorado will have a harder road to travel than before. |
