The information clerk is new at the business of knowing everything and one or two replies had to be looked up, but as a rule the answers came quickly. There is little doubt that many of the , questions' were asked with the sole de-- de-- sire of seeing If the information bureau . -was what Its name implied. Many of the questions were funny, but the ma-. ma-. Jority were asked in the hope of obtaining obtain-ing the information that was wanted. No. 3 Indwas certainly kept busy, and if the number of queries increases . it may become necessary to put on an extra clerk. , A partial list of the questions asked follows; " "How old is Anne 7" was the first to come singing over the wire, and the clerk promptly replied. It is a question as to Just which Anne was wanted, but the reply satisfied the man at the other ' end of the line. Louis Carre, member of the French Chamber of Commerce, who has lived for eight years in London as representative represen-tative of a firm -of champagne merchants, mer-chants, came to the Express office, his face beaming with eager ambltjon. The afternoon, when the ,fog was densest, provided an occasion most suitable be felt, on which his antidote for fogs, if it were in operation, might have had full play. . His scheme is still immature it has not gone beyond his conception; but he has co:munieated the idea to Mr. Benn, chairman of the London County Council, and the "Father of London," has replied diplomatically with a promise to place the -subject "In the rijrht hands." M. Carre's scheme, briefly, is to fan the focr away. If London were well fanned when a fog began to settle down the unwelcome visitor would be irresistibly irresis-tibly compelled to move on. Fog forms and remains like a pall over the metropolis metrop-olis because there Is no breeze to carry it away. London might be surrounded by a circle of. Immense fans, driven by ste- generated in the municipal, re-tx:' re-tx:' destroyers, and this would-ee't in motion such a breeze that the fog must lift and disappear. Chicago News. QUANT) BALL. .
