It -will probably be the last time, but he has so firmly established es-tablished the course his country follows, that it Is unlikely there will jbe any material change in policy after he retires. Mexico cannot compare as a republic with the United States, of course, but all things considered, she . has made . wonderful progress, and nearly all of.it is due to the efforts of Diaz. He has ruled more like-a dictatoY-than a President sometimes, but he has bad to do it in order to bring about results re-sults that would be beneficial in the end. Mexico is advancing. She is inviting the immigration immi-gration of foreigneea. Her resources are being developed de-veloped and she is slowly gaining rank among the nations of the world. If Diaz relinquishes the reins of. government to safe hands, as it is practically certain he will, another quarter of a century should see "Mexico a' republic worthy of the name. It will be a monument to Diaz. |
