Show MYSTERIOUS SHOOTING Telephone Girl Victim of Bullet Fired by Brotber-,In-Law. WASECA. Minn., Dec. I. -Miss Alice Ryan, night operator at the- telephone' ex-chaage ex-chaage here, was shot by Charles Smith, her brother-in-law. It is believed she will recover. Smith, who is a brake man on the Northwestern North-western road, entered the telephone office quietly. Miss Ryan was sitting at the switchboard, and near her were Dr. Cum-mlnga, Cum-mlnga, J. E. Madden, manager of the telephone tel-ephone company,- and Harry Meyers. Miss Ryan, who was conversing with the three, asked Smith what he wanted. The latter cried. "I want you," and pulling pull-ing a revolver from his pocket, flred. The shot wnt wild. Before the frightened people In the room could Interfere, Smith a rain flred, the bullet this time" striking Miss Ryan in the back of the neck. As the enraged man was about to fire the third time he was overpowered. "Charles, I did not think this of you," was the victim's only exclamation. Smith. It Is said, was under .the influence of liquor at the time.. On his way to Jail he phowed no remorse. He declared he wished he could have shot the person who prevented him from shooting the third time. No motive tor the deed Is known. - |
