Show CAUGHT IN VERY AC r Youthful Offender Is Lar ruped on Street by Angry Mother. Main street was amused. And Main street had good reason for its amusement, although the principals in the little family tragedy saw nothing amusing in the incident. About 10 o'clock Friday morning a well-dressed woman was walking north on Main street near the Keith-O'Brien store. Lagging a few steps in the rear was a youngster, clad in a Buster Brown suit, and he was having all sorts of fun. In one hand he tightly clutched a small piece of chalk and he was marking mark-ing the trousers of every man he passed. His touch was light and he escaped detection, de-tection, sending many on their way with a bright white mark across one leg of otherwise immaculate clothing. In a moment of careless folly, the youngster pressed too hard with his chalk against one man, and he looked down Just in time to see the tiny hand withdrawn and to get a glimpse of the chalk mark. The victim grasped the boy by the collar and looked angrily around for his guardian. Just at this time the woman missed her progeny and looked around. "Wha.t are you doing with my boy?" she demanded fiercely. "I was holding him until claimed, madam," said the man. "You can see why," and he exhibited the mark. "And not only that, but he has been marking every one he passed on the street." "Did you do that?" demanded the mother of her offspring. A whimper and an Ineffectual attempt to hide the telltale piece of chalk told the story, and without even looking at the interested crowa around her the mother made a lap as best she could and proceeded to hand her son borne homemade justice, the man watching the performance with satisfaction. The child howled and promised to be good, but the mother continued ui-tll she believed Justice had been fully done, when she set the lad on his feet. "I thank you, madam," said the man, as he raised his hat and walked away. The woman bowed and then grabbing her weeping child by the hand, disappeared disap-peared into Keith-O'Brien's. |
