A cross country club was organised and J. C. Brown elected president The- first run of tbe club will probably occur on Monday next Special apparatus baa been placed In tbe gymnasium for the sprinters and weight men. ,who will practice two days a week all winter. . tfe snitch emphasis cannot be placed oa tbe Importance of cross country running as a maans of developing and conditioning track men. Nearly every new man on a track squad thinks he can run 100 yards, and without the cross country work many a good- distance run-Mr might be dropped without anyone, ev.a himself, finding out that be was any-thlr any-thlr g but a poor sprinter. Moreover, It is mucli more interesting work than work in the gym, which Is mere drudgery, and It keepa . the men Interested In and up to their work. The plana for the new gymnasium have been completed and It Is probable that building will begin next spring. The cost of tbe building will be at least SjO.000. Oakland Besulta.
