It was amended fdxas not to affect the sale of patent and proprietary medicines or other preparations sold in properly labeled original or-iginal packages. ...... . . The income tax bill is now before the Senate. It was Introduced by Senator " Murdock yesterday as bill 178. It provides pro-vides for.-the law going Into effect s January 1, 1904.? It makes-.the tax-2 per cent straight on alt net incomes of $1000 and over. It applies to corporations as well as individuals. It makes no exemptions ex-emptions for new buildings and Improvements; Im-provements; nor for personal or family : expenses over 9100. It requires returns showing gross receipts, expenses, amounts paid in Interest, annuities and dividends; permanent Improvements, salaries and compensations. The taxes are due and-payable the same time as other taxes, and all revenues from the income tax are to go to the State school fund. A penalty of 200 per cent of the tax is provided for false returns, and a penalty of 10 per cent for delinquencies. The Committee on Education and Art made an adverse report on the kindergarten kinder-garten bill and action was deferred until un-til 3 o'clock this afternoon.
