Show BLAME UP TO COMPANY . - . f oroaer's Jury . Holds the Street Car Magnates Responsible, for- Farrow's Far-row's Death. The Inquest held by a Coroner's Jury over the remains of Walter C. Farrow, the motorman ' killed in a street car collision, was concluded yesterday afternoon. after-noon. JThe jury rendered a verdict which held the Consolidated Railway and Power company responsible for Farrow's death by neglecting' to have proper facilities for preventing such an accident. Criminal negligence was not shown. In closing, the Jury recom- j mended three Improvements In the ! cars for the purpose of avoiding similar : accidents in the future. The verdict was as follows: "We believe this accident might have been averted had the Consolidated Rail- j way and Power company had proper j signal lights each end of the single line track - where the accident, occurred. Hence we believe that ahe above said street car company showed neglect In not having such signals. In order to assist as-sist In avoiding further accidents of this kind, we, the Jury, recommend: "First, that both ends of stretches of single line track be provided with proper prop-er signal lights, which may be lighted from the opposite end of the single line track where the cars pass onto that line. ' "Second, that all street cars be provided pro-vided with powerful headlights, behind which shall be placed good parabolic mirror reflectors similar to those used on locomotives, and that these headlights head-lights be placed on the cars above the heads of the motormen In order that the tracks may be better lighted and the cars more readily seen in darkness or fog wh'ch may hereafter appear. "Third,, that the sand-boxes on the cars be placed in such a position and in such a way that they will sand born rails at the same time, and be operated in a way that they may .be set and sand the rails in case the motorman should of necessity have to leave tha car In case of Imminent danger. "In testimony whereof the said Jurors have hereunto set their hands the day of the year first above written. (Signed.) "JOHN BACK, "WILLIAM D. NEAL, "J. B. REID." |
