Show MANY IMPROVEMENTS j FOR FORT DOUGLAS ! Work oa the New Barracks and Gymnasium Gym-nasium for the Soldiers Will Begin in Two Weeks. Work will be commenced In about two weeks at Fort Douglas, preparatory to the erection of the new buildings which were provided for in the recent army appropriations. - Guy Atkinson of the firm of J. W. Atkinson At-kinson and Son, who secured the building build-ing contract, is in the city looking over the ground. Two buildings are to be erected at Fort Douglas at present, and it is believed be-lieved that others will follow when these are finished. The buildings will be two stories In height and will each have a basement. A year will be required re-quired to complete them. The buildings will be 150 by 104 feet, and will be Just south of the guardhouse. They will be modern in every particular, particu-lar, and each will accommodate 100 men. The buildings will cost $75,000 each, and all material, save the lumber, will be purchased here. The basements will be fitted up with storerooms, boiler-rooms, bath and toilet-rooms and other modern conveniences. con-veniences. On the first floor will be the kitchen, mess hall and dormitories, and on the second, dormitories and a tailor shop. . A modern gymnasium will also be built later, to cost $30,000. |
