It was run Into the yards and the President and his party remained re-mained aboard. The' President attended attend-ed St. Stephen's Episcopal church In the forenoon. The sermon was preached by the rector. Rev. Louis A. Arthur. In the afternoon the President went for a horseback ride, accompanied by Senator Dietrich. They rode out to Taylor's sbeep ranch and then around to the Soldiers' home, where the President Presi-dent greeted the veterans. The- ride was about fifteen miles. The day was extremely disagreeable on account of the hlrh wind, which blew clouds of dust in every direction. In order that the President and his party might be free from dost clouds while in the train, the fire department stretched a hose around the cars and kept the grounds sprinkled. The President will make a short address ad-dress tomorrow morning, and at :30 o'clock will leave for Hastings, Neb. He will reach Omaha at 6.05 o'clock to-mfcrrow to-mfcrrow afternoon. He will spend the night in Omaha. W. W. Heffelflnger, a Tal athlete, who was offered the place on the civil service commission made vacant by the retirement of -Mr. Garfield, today informed in-formed the President that he would be unable to accept the office. |
