Show NO COLONY . IN MEXICO Mormon Church Denies Report of Big Purchase of Land for Settlement. The Mormon church, through George Reynolds, secretary to President Joseph F. Smith, denies any knowledge of the purchase of 2,500,000 acres of land in Mexico, by Vice-President Morton of the Eanta Fe, for Mormon colonization. The report that such a deal had been made was telegraphed from Indianapolis Indianapo-lis last night. "If such a tract has been purchased by Mr. Morton we know nothing of It," said Mr. Reynolds today. "The Mormon church Is not in the market for colony sites, and has not authorised and encouraged en-couraged anyone to purchase land for colonisation purposes. "Many letters have been received regarding re-garding property In Mexico that is described de-scribed as being well suited for a Mormon Mor-mon colony. In reply to every such letter let-ter the church has written that It did not want to purchase any land at all." |
