Show GRAND JURY AFTER EPHNGER FAILURE Investigation of Affairs of Bank-rapt Bank-rapt Grain Concern at San Francisco. SAN FRANCISCO. June It The failure of the grain firm of Epplnrer A Co: was formally brought to the' attention of the grand Jury Friday .by ex-Judge Robert Ferral. representing- the District Attorney. Mr. Ferral reviewed the known circumstances circum-stances of the case and currant reports la the business community and declared that they were of sufficient Import to cause aa Investigation. The foreman of the Jury appointed as a committee of Inquiry Jurors J. S. Webster, Frank D. Peterson snd James B, Smith, who were instructed to report to a special session to be held next Tuesday. The Eppingers hsve snnounced that a fromlnent local attorney, whose practice s largely In tha criminal courts, had been retained in their behalf. From a statement mae today by Mr. Ach, who represents Epplnger A Co., it Is not probable that the warehouse records will be turned over to the creditors. The refusal. It Is said, will ba based on a recent re-cent decision of the Fedral courts, which held that no person could ha compelled to relinquish books or records which might be of an incriminating nature. |
