Show A Case for the Salt Lake Grand Jury. In discussing the question of child drinking at the closing session of the congress of Utah mothers moth-ers yesterday, Mrs. Johanna Melton said that only a few days ago she visited in the home of a friend in. this city and while there a boy of 3 or i years came in and in a boasting manner said that he had been tlrurik hn the previous day. Inquiry developed the fact that a saloonkeeper in the neighborhood was in the habit of giving liquor to the child, because be-cause his actions were, amusing while under the influence, in-fluence, and in this case had given the child so much that he-could not walk. These are plain, specific charges.- They-are horrible ones. Think of it! A man giving a three-year-old child whisky enough to make it intoxicated so that the youngster's drunken antics might make sport for him. And this in so enlightened en-lightened a city as Salt Lake. Mrs. Melton's charge should be taken up and investigated by the grand jury. Xot only will our citizens stand aghast at this story of depravity but the saloonkeepers will unite in demanding the punishment of the man who sold liquor, to this unfortnnate child, if Mrs. Melton's Mel-ton's charges can be substantiated. Probe the case, Mr. Grand Jurors! |
