Show STATE TO AID IRRIGATION The arid land reclamation fund commission com-mission is making preparations in order to have another scheme ready if any obstacles ob-stacles arise that cannot be overcome In the Utah lake reservoir plan. To all County Clerks have been sent circular letters which will open a way for all land-owners w ho desire Government aid in watering their property, to present their claims for public consideration. The letter Is as follows: . The Arid Land Reclamation Fund Com- mission desires to obtain all the reliable , data possible relative to sites for storage I of water in your county in order to be In I position to show to the Government or , others what the possibilities are for such undertakings In various parts of Utah. If you will at an early date furnish a statement descriptive of one or more of the principal possibilities of this nature In your county It will be much appreciated. appre-ciated. It is suggested that the statement show the following facts: The stream, and about where thereon the site for dam is situated. The extent of watershed above the proposed pro-posed reservoir. The height and length of dam necessary. neces-sary. The contents In scre-feet of reservoir which such a dam would provide. The available volume of stream from which reservoir could be filled. The location and area of land that could be watered.. The nature of the soil and for what crops best adapted. The ownership of the Irrigable land and whether in private or public ownership, or the extent of both. What portion of the stream. If any. Is already appropriated, and for what pur-noses. pur-noses. The dlstsnce of ths land from nearest rallwav line. . Where, and what kind of market there Is for farm products. The prospects ot procuring settlers for the land if water Is supplied, and from where the people would most likely come. What Is land with sufficient water right now worth in vicinity of the site. Are the people of your county desirous of having the Government build reservoirs to be afterward disposed of to the people peo-ple at cost, or do they jrefer to do the work themselves and in their own time and way. No, recent Information has been received re-ceived by State Engineer Doremus from Assistant Hydrographer 8wensen, but it is understood that he is putting a force of men to work in the Utah lake vicinity, vicin-ity, measuring the streams that flow Into In-to the lake. - The entire summer will be devoted to securing estimates of the inflow, outflow, out-flow, evaporation, configuration of the lake's bottom, etc. Steps will be taken to secure other data as the necessity for it shall become apparent. |
