Show Los Angeles Strike Continues. LOS AN-GT3LES. Cal., Aug. 17. Efforts of city officials to bring about a settlement settle-ment of the strike of conductors and motormen of the Los Angeles railway and the Pacific Electric railway, which began yesterday, had apparently brought no results re-sults tonight. The men clung to their original demands for increased wages and the companies still asserted they were unable to gTant them. Both companies announced today that cars were running on all their lines, but not with the usual frequency. "Jitney buses" were well patronized. Service for the night was suspended at 8 o'clock. Improved service was promised for tomorrow. to-morrow. No disorders resulting from the strike have been reported. |
