Show SALT LAKE PRESSED BRICK COMPANY j I SELECTS HEAVY-DUTY WHITE TRUCK j ; - j i r a , I I - I I ' 1 i T D i f -ft Model 40. White motor truck, recently purchased by Salt Lake Pressed Brick company from the WTiite Motors Mo-tors company, distributor for the inter mountain region. Tho first new Model 40 'White motor' (ruck for heavy duty, to reach the state of Utah, was purchased a few days ayo bv the Salt Lake Pressed Brick company, com-pany, reports B. W. Mendcnhall, man ager of the White Motors comnany, whose firm transacted the sale. The truck is of three and one-Ealf-ton capacity and at present is drawing a trailer of equal capacity. It is being used by the owners to deliver brick in and about Salt Lake City. It is equipped with the new form of double reduction gear drive, that was first brought out by the manufacturers in January, 1919. .''This new drive embodies the flexibility flex-ibility and pull of a chain and sprocket," sprock-et," says Mr. Mendcnhall, "and it closely parallels the chain and sprocket application of power. It has the same principle of double reduction. There is a first reduction through the bevel gear and drive pinion in the center of the rear axle. Thence the power is carried .by a live axle of the floating type through the center of the housing to a gear at the wheel-end of the live axle. This gear in turn meshes with a second gear, and this second gear in turn meshes with a rin" gear attached to the wheel inside of the base. "In this way of applying power to the wheel, a second reduction occurs between be-tween these three gears in the hub case, very similar to the reduction which takes place between the sprocket wheels of a chain drive. The power is applied at about the same distance from the rim as it is in the case of the chain drive, thereby retaining that advantage. This use of gears makes a rolling contact throughout, without any elements to produce friction.7' |
