Show SUGAR TAX CASE EVIDENCE ENDS Arguments Set for Tuesday, and Briefs Will Be Submitted. Evidence taking -was concluded at a night session of Judge J. Louis Brown's court yesterday in trial of the action brought by the Utah-Idaho Sugar company com-pany to enjoin the county treasurer from collecting taxes on the $10,000,-000 $10,000,-000 assessment made by former Assessor Asses-sor A. H. Parsons, in'l91S, upon the "intangible assets" of the company. Brief arguments will be heard by the court next Tuesday and the case will be submitted upon briefs. The suit involves, in round figures, $200,000 in tax revenues for the year 1918. In addition to the $10,000,000 assessed against tho "intangible assets" as-sets" of the company, $107,180 as- sessed against the West Jordan plant of the company is involved. The testimony of Mr. Parsons was to the effect that this was a part of the regular assessment against tho plant and was not to be regarded as an assessment as-sessment of "intangible assets" in connection with it, being segregated from the rest of the assessment against Uv T)lant through a clerical error. Witnesses examined yesterday were W. W. Barton, county treasurer, County Commissioners C. F. Stillman and William Wil-liam B. Hughes, County Auditor M. C. Tverson, all for the defenco; Assessor J. E. Lynch called out of order for tho plaintiff and V. T. Pyper, assistant secretar3' and treasurer of the company, and Mr. Parsons, recalled for further examination. |
