Show BOMB SUSPECTS Police Release Caruso and D'Stafor in Hotel Explosion Ex-plosion Case. Suspicion was at one time directed toward Caruso by Mrs. Mary Bruno, pro- prietress of a restaurant in the hotel , building, who was severely injured by the blast, when she made a statement to ( liief Criminal Deputy Sheriff Riley M. Beckstead stating that Caruso had at one time made to her partner. Angelo Rattini. threats of a "burning death." I Chief of Detectives Joseph Sharp said yesterday that Caruso had established a strong alibi. Seven persons had sworn to a statement that Caruso was with them from 9 o'clock Thursday to ten minutes to 5 o'clock Friday morning. The explosion in the hotel took place at about 4:37 o'clock Friday morning, according to the police. D'Stafor, who, the authorities say. was never at any time suspected of having been the perpetrator of the explosion, was released when he had satisfied them that he knew nothing of the act. Chief Sharp said yesterday that the police are endeavoring to find the man who actually placed the explosives. In dealing with a situation of the kind, Mr. Sharp said, to gain knowledge of a criminal foreigner from another of the same race is in nine cases, out ot ten an impossibility. Mrs. Mary Bruno, principal witness and informer in quest of the police for the perpetrator of the explosion, is reported re-ported at the county hospital last night to be well on the road to recovery. It was at first feared that she and her two children, also at the hospital, would lose their eyesight, in addition to disfigurement. disfigure-ment. Hospital attendants say that their eyesight will be saved. Tom Rose, 83 years of age, who sustained sus-tained the fracture of two of his ribs in the explosion, left the hospital two days ago.. |
