Newman of this city is prom-inent prom-inent among those who are doing do-ing their utmost to aid in tjie great war. Mrs. Newman, who is a widow, 60 years of age, not only has given three sons to Uncle Sam, but she is an indefatigable Bed Cross worker. Mrs. Newman was born in Springville, but has been a resident of Gunnison for a long period. Her husband died sixteen six-teen years ago. The three sons of Mrs. Newman, who have joined the colors, are Maniey A. Newman, Silas M. Newman and Albert H. Newman. Maniey A. Newman enlisted April 15, 1918, and received two months' training at Camp Lewis. Mr. Newman is 31 years of age and is a member of the 362nd infantry, Prance. The second son, Silas M. Newman, was born at West Jordan twenty-nine years ago. On September 24, 1917, he enlisted in Nevada and received military training at Camp Lewis. He is rnjw in active service in a provisional, battalion in France. Albert H. Newman, 22 years of age, enlisted at Gunnison Juno 24, 1918. He was given training at Tucson, Ariz., but at present is in the air school for radio operators at Austin, Texas. Mr. Newman was a high school instructor in-structor before giving his services to his country. |
