In' prepara- tlon for the huge task of collecting about a. eight billion dollars in tttxes next year under the revenue act now being framed, Internal Revenue Commissioner Roper Is planning reorganization of the revenue bureau Into five distinct divisions, and Is understood to have decided on the deputy commissioners to direct some of thoso divisions. At the head of the branch In charge of administering income and excess or war profits taxes will bo Homer S. Pace, widely-known New York accountant. Supervising collection of taxes on distilled i spirits and tobaccos will be William P. D. Haley, until recently revenue collector at Lexington, Ky., and a man experienced iowxlng these articles. C. B. Hurrey, now supervisor of busl-Mess busl-Mess co-operation for the revenue bureau, probably will be made deputy commts-,i commts-,i sioner in charge of general administrative " division, handling matters relating to pub-n pub-n lie relations and miscellaneous subjects. '5 The sales tax division It is understood, will be directed by 15: C. Keith, now a deputy commissioner in charge of this work. A fifth division, handling taxes on estate, capital stock and valuation of securities, will be created. Appointment of Mr. Haley In charge of administration of liquor and tobacco taxes was announced today. It now requires the services of 9375 persons to run the nation's tax-gather-I ing machine, including 1S75 In Washington Washing-ton and 7500 in the field, and under the task of gathering nearly twice as heavy taxes next year this force probably will K have to be Increased by 4000 or 5000.
