Show QUALIFYING MEDAL WON BY SCHOFIELD PINEHURST, N. C, April 2. E. L. Scofielel of Stamford, Conn., won the qualifying medal here today in the north and south amateur championship yolf tournament. Scofleld added a 71 today to the 77 made in the first eiKhteen holes yesterday, giving him 131. Irving S. Robeson of Rochester took second sec-ond honors, with a total of 15S; Dr. H. Gardner of Providence third, with ltii); Guy A. Miller of Detroit fourth, with 161, and Donald Parson of Youngstown and Franklin Gates of Pinehurst tied for fifth place, with H!3. The others who qualified for the championship, cham-pionship, in which play begins tomorrow, were : Henry C. Fownes, Pittsburg: Arthur Tates, Rochester; Allan laird, Washington; Washing-ton; Howard G. Phillips, Pinehurst; P. S. MacLauRhlln, Kcarsdale;- Leslie Deane Pierce, Rochester, Vt. ; Walter M. Crooks, Holyoke; R. A. Stranahan, Toledo; Richard Rich-ard Turnstall, Norfolk, and Robert M. Markwell, Chicago. Play today was remarkably good, 170 being called for as admission to the championship cham-pionship sixteen, and more than 100 players play-ers finishing the thirty-six holes under 198. |
