Show Accuse Man of Resorting to Drug to Evade Draft Greek Jailed for Investigation Investiga-tion Following Physical Probe. ACCUSED of producing an abnormal condition of the heart by the use of drugs, for the purpose of evading evad-ing the draft. John Pappas, a Greek, was arrested yesterday by Deputy Sheriff Riley M. Beckstead at the request of the federal authorities, and is held in the county jail for investigation. According to the sheriffs office, Pappas was examined some time ago and was passed as 100 per cent physically .fit. I Later he appeared before the board and protested his examination on the ground that his heart was in bad condition, which fact was apparently established by a re-examination. Later, however, the board became suspicious that Pappas was taking some drug to bring about the abnormal condition. He will be held for several days, it Is said, at the end. of which time his heart will again be examined ex-amined In an effort to establish whether his ailment was artificially produced. Joseph Winning, Samuel Kusslk and Fred Miller were brought- to Salt Lake vesterday from Greenriver, Utah, and are held in the county jail for Investigation by the federal authorities. The men are alleged to be draft evaders. |
